October 3, 2026

Free tacos, 60-cent tacos and a taco-shaped Duolingo owl: National Taco Day 2026 lands on Tuesday, October 6, and the deals are already rolling in. Some chains are stretching the party into a whole week, so you could be eating cheap tacos from Monday to Sunday.

Below is every National Taco Day 2026 deal we could confirm from 2026 announcements, plus the chains worth watching, why the date keeps confusing people, and how to stack app offers so your taco night costs less than a latte. Deals listed as of Saturday, October 3, 2026. Offers vary by location and can change, so always check the chain’s app or website before you go.

When Is National Taco Day 2026?

National Taco Day 2026 is Tuesday, October 6. It now falls on the first Tuesday of October every year.

If you remember it being October 4, you’re not wrong. That was the traditional date for years. Oct. 4 was labeled National Taco Day in 2009 and “cemented itself on the National Day Calendar” in 2013, according to Taco Bell. Then in September 2024, Taco Bell and the National Day Calendar announced the move to the first Tuesday in October so the holiday would always line up with Taco Tuesday.

“National Taco Day has traditionally been celebrated on Oct. 4, but for years we’ve fielded countless comments from fans asking why it wasn’t on a Tuesday,” National Day Calendar founder Marlo Anderson told Fox News Digital at the time. Since 2000, the holiday had only landed on a Tuesday four times, per Taco Bell.

So if you see older articles or calendars saying October 4, that’s the old date. This year, Sunday, October 4, is just a regular Sunday (taco-friendly, but no special deals required).

Baja Fresh: 3 tacos for $6

Baja Fresh announced on September 28 that guests can get 3 Chicken Street Tacos for $6 on October 6 at participating locations. Per the company’s announcement, it’s valid in-store only, limit one per person, and no login or loyalty account is required. That makes it the easiest no-app deal on the list.

Chronic Tacos: a full National Taco Week

Chronic Tacos loyalty members get a new offer in the app each day, and each expires at midnight:

  • Mon., Oct. 5: Buy one taco, get one free
  • Tue., Oct. 6: One free taco
  • Wed., Oct. 7: Buy two tacos, get two free
  • Thu., Oct. 8: $2 off a taco plate
  • Fri., Oct. 9: Buy one taco, get one free

Del Taco: 60-cent tacos plus “Tacober”

On October 6, Del Taco is offering Snack Tacos for 60 cents each, up to five per offer, according to Hip2Save’s 2026 roundup. Del Yeah! Rewards members also get rotating “Tacober” deals all month, including free fries with any taco purchase October 8-10 and The Del Taco for $1 on October 29-31.

Laredo Taco Company (inside select 7-Eleven, Speedway and Stripes stores)

7-Eleven’s taco brand is offering BOGO Potato and Egg Tacos, BOGO Chicken Fajita Tacos, $5 El Gran Tocino Tacos and Burritos, and a $5 Taco Meal Deal (a chicken taco, a bean and cheese taco, a small side and a Big Gulp) on October 6. Only select stores have a Laredo Taco Company counter, so check before you drive.

Taco Bell: plushies, not free tacos (so far)

Taco Bell is going a different route this year with a Duolingo team-up. At 2 p.m. PT on October 6, Taco Bell Rewards members can try for a free Taco Bell x Duolingo plush on the app’s Tuesday Drops page, while supplies last. Starting the same day, participating locations will hand out one free Duo Habanero Sauce packet with a Doritos Locos Taco purchase. Through October 6, Rewards members can also claim a free month of Super Duolingo via a code in the Taco Bell app.

Chains to Watch (No Confirmed 2026 Deal Yet)

As of Saturday morning, we couldn’t find a confirmed 2026 National Taco Day offer from these chains. Many announce deals the day before or only inside their apps, so it’s worth a quick check Monday night:

  • Taco John’s
  • Chipotle
  • Qdoba
  • On The Border
  • Rubio’s Coastal Grill
  • El Pollo Loco
  • Taco Cabana

We’re not listing deals for these brands because we haven’t seen them confirmed for 2026. If an offer shows up in your app, great. If a social post shows a “free taco” coupon from 2025, it’s probably expired.

How to Stack National Taco Day 2026 Deals Like a Pro

The best deals this year are mostly locked behind free loyalty programs. A few simple moves help you get the most out of them:

  1. Download and sign up by Monday. Some app rewards take time to load, and you don’t want to be creating a password at the drive-thru.
  2. Read the fine print. “Participating locations,” “limit one,” and “in-store only” are common. Franchise locations can opt out.
  3. Spread it across the week. Chronic Tacos runs Oct. 5-9 and Moe’s runs Oct. 6-11, so you don’t have to cram every deal into one Tuesday.
  4. Skip the add-ons. A $6 taco deal turns into $15 fast with a drink, chips and guac. Water and one shared side keep it a deal.
  5. Turn notifications on, then off. Enable push alerts for the week to catch surprise drops, then turn them off before they nudge you into extra orders.

If you’ve already been prepping your apps for October Prime Day (Oct. 6-7), you’re in luck: the same Tuesday works for both. Just don’t let the “deal brain” turn a cheap lunch into an impulse cart.

Fun Taco Facts for Your Tuesday Table

  • The word may come from mining. Food historian Jeffrey M. Pilcher told Smithsonian Magazine in 2012 that “taco” likely started in 18th-century Mexican silver mines, where small paper-wrapped gunpowder charges were called tacos. One of the earliest written references is to “tacos de minero,” or miner’s tacos.
  • “Taco Tuesday” used to be trademarked. Taco John’s held the trademark in 49 states for decades. After Taco Bell challenged it in 2023, Taco John’s abandoned its claim that July, and Taco Bell later said the phrase was “officially liberated” in all 50 states.
  • The new date is only two years old. 2026 is just the third year National Taco Day has officially been tied to the first Tuesday of October.

Budget Taco Night at Home

Not near any of these chains? A homemade taco night can still feed a family for less than a round of drive-thru combos. A few easy tips:

  • Stretch the protein. Mix ground beef or turkey with a can of black or pinto beans. You get more filling for the same price.
  • Make your own seasoning. Chili powder, cumin, garlic powder, paprika, salt and pepper from your spice rack beat single-use packets.
  • Compare tortillas. Check the unit price on corn vs. flour packs. Corn tortillas are also a naturally gluten-free option.
  • Build a toppings bar from what you have. Shredded cabbage, onions, leftover rice, a squeeze of lime and any salsa in the fridge all count.
  • Plan for leftovers. Extra filling becomes Wednesday’s taco salad or quesadillas.

The Bottom Line on National Taco Day 2026

Mark Tuesday, October 6, on your calendar, not October 4. Your best no-app deal is Baja Fresh’s 3 tacos for $6. Your best app plays are Chronic Tacos’ weeklong lineup, Del Taco’s 60-cent Snack Tacos, Jack in the Box’s two free tacos and Moe’s $2 tacos through October 11.

Your to-do list for this weekend: download the one or two apps you’ll actually use, sign in, and check offers again Monday night. Deals vary by location, so confirm in the app before you go.
