After opening one of the plane’s doors and using the emergency evacuation slide, a man traveling on a Delta Air Lines passenger plane in the US was apprehended. As per the local authorities, the incident happened on Saturday as Delta Flight 1714 was getting ready to take off from Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) to Seattle.
According to the Los Angeles Airport Police, while the aircraft was accelerating towards the airport, an anonymous traveler wearing a striped jumper and black pants ran to the flight attendant. The traveler briefly stopped and spoke with the flight attendant, “What should I do now?”
The passenger fled from the attendant after being instructed to return to and occupy the seat, running straight for the aircraft’s emergency exits. The passenger turned the latch on the emergency gate, allowing the emergency slide to open before any of the attendants could stop him.
The man leapt onto the back of a luggage trolley as the pilots abruptly came to a stop. The passenger was initially detained by Delta workers before being turned over to the LAX Police.
“Due to a disruptive passenger, Delta Flight 1714, which flew from Los Angeles to Seattle, was forced to return to the gate. The customer stepped outside the aircraft while it was waiting to taxi for takeoff, and was originally detained by Delta workers before being taken into custody by local law enforcement, according to a statement issued by the airline.
In a statement, the Federal Aviation Authority (FAA) expressed regret for the inconvenience and mentioned that the remaining travelers had been taken to another aircraft.
In the statement, it was stated that “customers are being re-accommodated on a new aircraft and we apologize for any inconvenience and delay in their travel arrangements.”
The mishap ultimately caused the flight to be delayed by more than three hours.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) was reportedly informed of the accident as the passenger was brought to a nearby hospital for a psychiatric assessment.
“Airport Police arrived and took the person into custody for additional research. The FBI was informed as a result of the circumstances, according to LAX Police, as reported by Fox News.
