This is Netflix’s tentpole original movie for October. Ben Affleck directs, co-writes and stars as Mark Kimball, a Los Angeles mayoral candidate whose son is kidnapped in the middle of his campaign. Kerry Washington plays his wife, Abigail, and Gillian Anderson plays a mysterious fixer who warns them, “Your son’s life is at stake,” according to Netflix’s Tudum. Steven Yeun also co-stars.
Affleck’s track record in crime thrillers – Gone Baby Gone, The Town and Best Picture winner Argo – is the main reason to be excited. The film also gets a limited theatrical release the same day.
‘Sacrifice’ (Oct. 16)
Chris Evans plays a movie star having an existential crisis who gets taken hostage at a glitzy charity gala by a radical group led by Anya Taylor-Joy. Romain Gavras directs, and the cast also includes Vincent Cassel, Salma Hayek Pinault, John Malkovich and Charli XCX. Expect big satire energy rather than a straight action movie.
‘The Diplomat’ Season 4 (Oct. 15)
Keri Russell returns as Kate Wyler. Netflix’s synopsis says “one catastrophic moment” shatters the peace Kate brokered between the U.S. and U.K. – and her already crumbling marriage. Tom’s Guide notes the show has 10 Emmy nominations and a win for Allison Janney.
‘Nobody Wants This’ Season 3 (Oct. 22)
Kristen Bell and Adam Brody are back as Joanne and Noah. Per Netflix, the couple takes “their relationship to the next level amid sibling drama, maternal meddling and one giant leap of faith.” Easy comfort viewing.
‘Lupin’ Part 4 (Oct. 23)
Omar Sy’s gentleman thief Assane Diop returns. Netflix’s teaser: after four years in prison, Assane is ready for a quiet family life – until a copycat shows up.
‘Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2’ (Oct. 20)
Anime fans have waited a long time for this. Netflix describes it as a standalone 10-episode story with a new crew of hired guns in Night City, the world of the Cyberpunk 2077 video game. You don’t need to have seen season 1.
‘Tyler Perry’s Doing Life’ (Oct. 2)
Tyler Perry writes and directs this romantic drama about a single mother and an incarcerated man who form a bond through letters. It’s his third Netflix project of 2026, according to Tom’s Guide.
‘Below’ (Oct. 8)
Josh Hartnett stars in this six-part supernatural limited series about a coastal town terrorized by a mysterious sea creature. Busy week for Hartnett, who’s also in theaters this Friday in the Colleen Hoover thriller Verity.
